Marauders Turn to Defense to Beat Lincoln

Lincoln, Pa. - Millersville men's basketball defeated Lincoln 66-56 as part of the CIAA-PSAC Challenge held in Manuel Rivero Hall on Saturday. Kelvin Parker paced the Marauders with 13 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

Millersville (1-1) jumped out to a 12-7 lead over the Lions on a Shawn Williams 3-pointer. However, Lincoln was able to make a run of their own and tied the contest at 18 all with 9:05 left in the first half. Both teams closed out the half trading baskets with the Lions gaining the upper hand with a 6-0 run that led to a 38-32 halftime lead.

Newcomer Eddie Callender opened the second half scoring and finished the contest with eight points and six rebounds. It was Callender's strong play down low, along with Tommy Patterson, that helped mount the comeback for the Marauders who finally regained the lead for good with 9:13 remaining in the second half. From there, Millersville was able to build the 10-point lead with which it ended the game.

Tony Efece led Lincoln with 15 points and five rebounds. The Marauders held a 28-20 advantage in points in the paint.

Millersville opens PSAC play this week when it travels to West Chester on Wednesday. Head coach Fred Thompson's squad traded victories with the Rams a season ago with the win coming on a buzzer beater at Pucillo Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
