East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Millersville volleyball team is peaking at just the right time and after a sweep of East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon, the Marauders have won three straight and five of their last six.
Millersville avenged an earlier season loss to the Warriors and won with set scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 26-24 to improve to 14-15 overall including 7-13 in PSAC play. On the other side, East Stroudsburg fell to 6-23 on the season and 2-18 in conference action. With West Chester and Shippensburg both losing and falling to 8-12 in the league, the Marauders are just one game out of fourth place in the East with two matches to play next Friday and Saturday.
Millersville's best period of the match came in the first stanza when it hit a blistering .333 with 17 kills and only four errors on 39 total attacks. East Stroudsburg's offense struggled all day and answered the Marauders' first set effort with an attaking percentage of just .054.
The visitors' attack cooled off a bit in the second period to hit .238 with 15 kills and five errors on 42 swings. Meanwhile, the home team's offense struggled even more and attacked at a clip of only.023.
The away team's worst offensive stanza of the match came in the third set when it hit just .109 but the hosts answered with a hitting percentage of .040.
Both
Katie Lesinski and
Erin Harman sent home 13 kills apiece and Lesinski registered an attacking percentage of .214 while Harman's was a red-hot .242. Behind those two,
Kayla Wallace tallied eight kills and no errors on 20 swings to hit .400.
Victoria Biggins added 40 assists and on defense, three Marauders had at least 10 digs including
Brooklyn Smith (19), Lesinski (16) and Biggins (13). Wallace assisted in five blocks above the net.
Next up, Millersville comes home on Nov. 7 to face Lock Haven beginning at 7 p.m.
