Millersville Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team came out firing shots from all over the field, and it was a successful tactic as they beat Mercyhurst, 1-0. For the game the Marauders out-shot the Lakers 23-10, with Millersville also holding the corner kick advantage 9-2. Millersville improved to 5-4-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Lakers dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the PSAC.
Mercyhurst came out of the gates dominating; they fired two quick shots on goal while creating a corner kick opportunity within the first five minutes of play. But Millersville slowly adjusted into the game, and began to control the possession and pace deep into their attacking third. But the Black & Gold weren't able to fire a shot past Laker goalkeeper Ellie McDougall and ended the first half tied 0-0.
In the second period it was defender Hannah Willet who fired a laser that beat McDougall but it struck the post in the 47th minute. The Lakers were able to clear the ball out of the penalty box and the score remained tied at zero.
The Marauders finally broke through at the 59:53 mark thanks to the foot of
Alexandrea Powell. The goal marked the first tally of the season for the sophomore midfielder. Millersville was able to tighten up its defensive positioning as they only allowed one more Laker shot past the 59th minute.
Goalkeeper
Olivia Webber finished the afternoon with five saves while also recording her 4th shutout of the season which ranks first in the PSAC.
