Millersville Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team wasn't able to overcome three first-half goals as it dropped a 3-1 decision to Gannon. The Golden Knights recorded their three tallies in the opening 33 minutes of play and never looked back as they improved to 5-4-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. With the loss on Friday afternoon, Millersville falls to both 4-4 overall and in the PSAC.
The first tally of the afternoon came in the 12th minute when Justine Rodrigues received a pass from midfielder Kaitlyn Kissell that put Rodrigues beyond the Marauder defense. Rodrigues fired a shot that was just out of the reach of Millersville goal keeper
Olivia Webber and it trickled into the net.
Just seven minutes later, Mani Brueckner dribbled into the attacking third and ripped a dipping shot attempt into the right upper-90 for her third goal of the season. In the 33rd minute, Brueckner crossed the ball into the box and junior Kaitlyn Kissell headed the cross past Webber putting the Golden Knights up 3-0.
The Marauders were able to get on the board in the 58th minute thanks to an outstanding individual effort by
Kelsey Mattola. She stole the ball at midfield and dribbled to approximately 35-yards out where she struck a shot that was nothing but net.
The Golden Knights remain undefeated in five all-time meetings against Millersville. For the game, Gannon outshot the Marauders 19-13 despite the Black & Gold recording a 9-7 shot advantage in the second half.
Millersville continues PSAC action when they host Mercyhurst on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.
