Marauders Stunned in Overtime

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to Gannon Friday night at Pucillo Field. Golden Knight forward Robbie Bennett scored his second unassisted goal of the day 4:26 into extra time improving Gannon to 3-5-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. With the loss, Millersville now drops to 2-7-1 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play.

Gannon was able to out-shoot Millersville 26-14 in the contest including a 2-0 advantage in the overtime period.

Robbie Bennett opened the scoring just three minutes into the first period as he got into open space beating Millersville goalkeeper David Brubaker in a one-on-one situation. The opening score was Bennett's 40th career goal.

However, the Marauders responded brilliantly netting a pair of goals at the 7:36 and 19:34 marks. Shaun Daly was credited with tying the match just before the eighth minute. Daly struck a shot off Golden Knight goalkeeper Mathew Dixon before collecting his own rebound and firing it into the net.

Zach Brier was able to out-pace the Gannon defenders as he slid a shot past a diving Dixon putting Millersville up 2-1. The goal marked Brier's second of the season and he was assisted by freshman Jesse Zimmerman.

The score remained 2-1 through halftime, but Gannon equalized the score nine minutes into the second period. Jason Fox was able to beat a diving David Brubaker evening up the affair. The score remained 2-2 through the end of regulation.

Gannon controlled the possession in overtime, as Bennett netted the game winner just before the 95th minute for the golden goal.

Millersville continues PSAC West action tomorrow Oct. 4 when it hosts Mercyhurst at Pucillo Field in a rematch of last season's NCAA Atlantic Region title game. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
