Marauders Storm Back With Three Unanswered Goals

Millersville, Pa. - The women's soccer team was able to overcome a 1-0 deficit against Lock Haven Saturday evening on Pucillo Field. The Marauders were able to net three unanswered second half goals to win 3-1. Prior to kickoff, the Marauders honored their three seniors: Megan Wilson, Kelsey Mattola, and Kristin Lepley.

Lock Haven (3-12-1, 3-11-1 PSAC) was able to cease the early momentum as leading scorer Jamie Hunter netted her fifth goal of the season in the 8th minute. Millersville keeper Olivia Webber was trying to clear the ball from the Marauder defensive third, and her kick ricocheted off a teammate to the foot of Hunter who fired her shot into the back of the net.

The Marauders had plenty of opportunities to equalize as they fired 10 first half shots, but Bald Eagle goalkeeper Michelle Cuomo was able to make several timely saves. Lock Haven was able to hold onto the 1-0 lead through the end of the first 45 minute period.

A ferocious Marauder attack out of the break led to a Lock Haven defensive miscommunication inside the box as they scored an own goal at the 46:32 mark, leveling the match at one.

Just over a minute later Millersville was able to lead another attack that resulted in a Bald Eagle defender committing a foul inside the penalty box giving Millersville a penalty kick opportunity. Senior Kelsey Mattola converted the attempt making it 2-1, on her fourth goal of the season.

An insurance goal was added by Kady Yoders in the 70th minute. Halie Parker was able to flick a pass to Yoders who fired a laser from 20-yards out that was nothing but net.

With the victory on Senior Day, Millersville improves to both 7-6-1 overall and in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action. The Marauders ended up holding a 26-8 shot advantage, and also had seven corner kick opportunities compared to the two generated by Lock Haven.

With three games remaining, Millersville currently sits in the eighth and final PSAC postseason tournament position. The Marauders will travel to Philadelphia this Monday, in a non-conference matchup with Lincoln. The match is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
