No. 2 West Chester Nips No. 1 Marauders in OT

West Chester, Pa. - In the third No. 1 vs. No. 2 match-up its played this season, Millersville fell to homestanding West Chester in overtime by a 2-1 score Wednesday afternoon.

Millersville, now 11-2 overall and 8-2 in the PSAC, has split with both No. 2 West Chester and No. 3 Shippensburg, and both losses have come either in overtime or on an untimed play at the end of regulation.

Millersville held a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners but managed little offense from its opportunities, totaling just six shots and two shots on goal. West Chester totaled eight shots and just three on goal but cashed in on two of them.

The game-winner came 8:07 into overtime from Hannah Davies. The Golden Rams forced a pair of penalty corners, and following the second, Davies tipped a Dayle Paustian shot high into the top left corner of the cage.

It was Paustian that gave West Chester its first goal. It came at the 31:08 mark of the first half on a penalty stroke. The Marauders drew a stroke six minutes into the second half, and Rachel Dickinson converted for the game-tying goal and her fifth tally of the season.

The score remained tied until Davies' overtime winner. Millersville's best scoring opportunity in regulation came in the 69th minute when it drew three consecutive corners but failed to attempt a shot. Champayne Hess took the first shot of overtime but it was turned away by Golden Ram keeper Sarah Krause. That was Millersville's only chance in the overtime.

Wednesday's game was the start of a three-game stretch against nationally-ranked opponents for the Marauders. Limestone visits Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium for a non-conference tilt at 12 p.m. Four of the Marauders' final five regular season games are at home.
