Volleyball Swept by Pitt-Johnstown in Straight Sets

Johnstown, Pa. - Pitt-Johnstown used a sizzling hitting percentage of .319 to dispatch the Millersville volleyball team in straight sets on Friday night as the Marauders responded with a hitting percentage of just .038.

The Mountain Cats (11-9, 7-7 PSAC) snapped their four-match losing streak and defeated the Marauders (9-13, 3-11 PSAC) with set scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-13. Millersville has struggled as of late in dropping its last five matches, all of which were away from Pucillo Gymnasium.

Pitt-Johnstown scored the first three points of the match and opened the first set on a 9-3 run. The Marauders then scored four of the next five points to cut the deficit to three, 10-7. From that point on, the Mountain Cats rattled off 15 of the final 20 points to take the stanza by 13 points. That marked the home team's hottest set of the day with an attacking percentage of .355 that included 14 kills and only three errors on 31 total attacks.

The visitors' offense came to life in a second set that saw three ties and two lead changes. Millersville was up 10-4 to begin the set and that fury forced its hosts to call a timeout. The opening advantage was fueled by six Pitt-Johnstown errors and two Erin Harman kills. Out of the breather, the Marauders scored two more points and held their biggest lead of the match, 12-4. Millersville's advantage was at least four points until the Mountain Cats trailed 17-14 and the Marauders called a timeout of their own. Pitt-Johnstown came back and ended up winning the set with an 11-4 run and was up two sets to none.

The home team scored the first five points of the third set and opened it with a 9-3 lead. The Marauders didn't go down easy though, battled back with a 4-0 run and trailed their opponent, 9-7. The Mountain Cats' offense was simply too much to handle though as it closed the by scoring 16 of the final 22 points and hit .312 in the set.

Millersville was led by Harman's seven kills and 12 digs while Victoria Biggins tallied 11 assists and Mary Paul turned in three block assists.

The Marauders are at Lock Haven on Saturday and the match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
