Bloomsburg, Pa. - The No. 12-ranked Bloomsburg Huskies forced five turnovers and smothered the Millersville offense for a 41-0 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies (6-0, 5-0 PSAC East) picked off
Matt Misley four times and recovered a fumble while limiting the Marauders (0-6, 0-5 PSAC East) to a season-low 175 yards of offense. It marked the first time since Sept. 17, 2011 that Millersville had been shutout. After scoring 76 points in the first three games, Millersville has scored just 14 points in the last three games. Bloomsburg was Millersville's third nationally-ranked and unbeaten opponent in the last four weeks.
A trio of true freshmen led Millersville's offensive efforts.
Kevin Wiggins and
Malont'a Patterson each caught four passes.
Phil Vass made his collegiate debut at running back and led the team with 52 yards on 11 carries.
Bloomsburg quarterback Tim Kelly completed 9-of-16 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown and was intercepted in the first quarter by
P.J. Santos. He also rushed for an 81-yard touchdown. Eddie Mateo scored the first three touchdowns of the game, boosting his PSAC-leading total to 14.
Millersville's defense held Bloomsburg scoreless on the first two drives of the game, but Millersville's third and fourth offensive possessions ended in interceptions. Bloomsburg converted both into touchdowns, needing just four plays and 20 yards for the first and one play and 32 yards for the second. A third interception translated into another short field and a 32-yard TD drive just before the half, putting Bloomsburg in front 27-0 at the break.
Kelly's 81-yard run started the econd-half scoring for Bloomsburg, and the Huskies added a 30-yard TD run from Altarique Mosley-Drew mid-way through the fourth quarter.
Linebacker
Reggie Slaton recorded 11 tackles, giving him double-digit stops in five of six games this season.
Millersville hosts East Stroudsburg for its annual Homecoming game on Oct. 18. Including ESU's 5-1 mark, Millersville's last five opponents boast a combined record of 29-4.
