Lock Haven, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference released the list of 2012-13 PSAC Scholar-Athletes on Thursday, and Millersville had 104 athletes take home the academic award. The women's track and field team led all Marauder teams with 18 PSAC Scholar-Athletes.
2012-13 marks the sixth-straight year that Millersville has had at least 100 student-athletes named to the conference academic list.
To be recognized, a student-athlete must produce a minimum 3.25 GPA during the school year, proving excellence in the classroom. Across the PSAC, 2,200 student-athletes qualified for Scholar-Athlete status, which is 35 percent of all student-athletes in the conference. The number of 2012-13 Scholar-Athletes is a new record for the conference, topping the old record from the previous academic year. The 104 Marauder athletes mark 27 percent of all student-athletes at Millersville.
Millersville associate athletic director Dr. Anthony Grant was proud of the Marauders' representation on the PSAC Scholar-Athlete list, stating: "Having over 100 student-athletes make the PSAC Scholar-Athlete list for six-straight years is testament to the athletes and the department. We are very proud of each student-athlete and all the hardwork that they put into both academics and athletics throughout the entire school year."
Senior field hockey athlete Maria Thompson boasted the highest individual GPA, recording a perfect 4.0 for the fourth-stright year. Men's soccer goalkeeper Christopher Schneider led the men with an individual GPA of 3.96 during the school year.
