Millersville, Pa. – After not scoring a single goal in 2011, sophomore Kristin Lepley scored all three goals and for the Millersville women's soccer team as it topped the Mansfield Mountianeers 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Lepley scored her first goal in the first half on an assist from Quantera Lightner and the Marauders entered halftime with the 1-0 advantage. Lepley would later score two unnassisted goals in the second half. Her second score was a blast from 20 yards out and the third was a left footed shot that bent around Mountaineer keeper Alexis Wilhelm.
Millersville (3-2, 1-2 PSAC) totaled 23 shots on the day and took more shots on goal (13) than Mansfield (1-3-1, 0-2-1 PSAC) did shots (11). Marauder goalkeeper Olivia Webber notched her first shutout of 2012 in a four save effort.
Lepley's first goal came in the 33rd minute as the Marauders were able to break through the Mansfield defense on a pass from Lightner. Lightner collected the ball 40 yards out and dribbled past her defender. She then played a slotted ball through the Mountaineer defense to a charging Lepley. Lepley took a few touches, out ran the defense and poked the ball past Wilhelm for the 1-0 Marauder lead.
Her second goal would come in the 53rd minute. This time Lepley collected the ball in the middle of the field and started attacking the Mansfield defense with plenty of room to work. She paused for a little and looked for someone to pass to. Once she noticed no one was open she put her head down and fired a shot from 20 yards out. The ball floated right over Wilhelm's reach and into the goal for the 2-0 Millersville advantage.
With 10 minutes to go in the game Lepley would complete the hat trick on a goal from 15 yards out. She collected the ball at the 18 and started dribbling to her left, she surveyed her options and again decided to shoot. Lepley took the shot with her left foot and bent the ball right around Wilhelm and into the left side of the cage.
The Marauders improve to 3-2 on the season and gather their first PSAC win of 2012. Millersville travels to California (Pa.) next for a PSAC game on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
