Lacrosse Concludes Season With Defeat to Raiders

Shippensburg, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team fell behind early by five goals to start its match with Shippensburg. The Marauders were never able to catch up as they fell by a score of 17-10 to the Raiders on Thursday in the season finale.

Shippensburg (8-9, 4-7 PSAC) scored the game's first five goals just seven minutes into regulation. Four of the goals came in a span of 1:35.

Millersville (6-11, 2-9 PSAC) finally got on the board at the 20:47 mark when Ashley Henderson fired home her 40th goal of the season to cut the Raiders' lead to 5-1.

The Raiders scored the next two goals to push their lead to 7-1 before Henderson added to her career season.

Henderson notched the Marauders' next two goals to cut the deficit to 7-3 with 4:44 in the first half. It is Henderson's seventh hat trick this season, five of which she scored four-plus goals.

Shippensburg closed out the first half with a goal with just 17 seconds remaining for a 9-4 lead. The Raiders extended their lead to 10-4 just over a minute into the second half.

Caitlin Shannon fed Hannah Vogel for a Millersville response 45 seconds later. Shannon then scored back-to-back goals in just over a minute to cut Shippensburg's lead to 11-7 with 23:30 remaining.

Shannon joined Henderson with her own hat trick with 13:02 in the final half, but not until after the Raiders had scored three-straight goals to have a 14-8 lead.

Kathryn Kehring scored two goals for Millersville in the final 10 minutes of play but it is was not enough as Shippensburg kept a comfortable lead for  a 17-10 victory in the team's season finales.

Shannon finished the season with a career best and team-leading 45 goals. Shannon and Henderson, who finished with 42 goals, are the first Marauders in three years to break to 40 goal mark. Liz Weekly collected 45 goals in 2009. Both Shannon and Henderson finished with a career-high 47 total points to lead the team.

Goalkeeper Lauren Mateja finished with 12 saves for the second time in as many games.

Millersville concludes its season under first-year head coach Mia Hall with a 6-11 overall record.
