Lacrosse Falls to No. 15 Gannon

Millersville, Pa. – Millersville stayed with the No. 15 team in the country for 11 minutes in the first half before Gannon went on an 7-0 run to take a 13-4 lead. The Golden Knights scored all but one of the goals in the second half to get a 22-7 victory over the Marauders on Friday and Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium.

Gannon (9-5, 7-2 PSAC) and Millersville (5-9, 2-7 PSAC) scored six seconds apart in the first minute of play for a 1-1 tie.  Ashley Henderson fed Becky Donkin for the equalizer after the Golden Knights took an early lead.

The Golden Knights pushed their lead to 2-1 before Caitlin Shannon netted her team-leading 36th goal of the season to even the game at 2-2.

Gannon scored three-straight goals before Brooke Fisher scored Millersville's third goal of the game. The Marauders cut the Golden Knights' lead to 6-4 on Shannon's second goal of the afternoon before Gannon flexed its muscle.

The Golden Knights scored seven consecutive goals over a span of 12 minutes to push their lead to 13-4. The Marauders scored two more goals by Hannah Vogel and  Henderson before the break to trail by a score of 14-6.

In the second half, Gannon took over scoring the half's first eight goals for a 22-6 lead. Stevie Lombardoni scored three second-half goals to finish with a game-high five goals. Sarah Grzybinski also netted five goals for the Golden Knights with an assist.

Karen Illuminati found one goal for Millersville late in the second half but that was all the Marauders could muster. Millersville fell by a score of 22-7.

Shannon finished with a team-high two goals and now has 37 goals on the season.

Millersville is back in action at home tomorrow when it host Mercyhurst at 1 p.m. The Marauders will recognize its only senior, Katie Moatz, prior to the game.
