Marauders’ Win Streak Ends at Four

Indiana, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team trailed by nine goals at the break and was unable to stop the Indiana (Pa.) offensive attack, falling for the first time in five games by a score of 21-10 on Saturday at George P. Miller Stadium.

IUP (4-1, 2-0 PSAC) took a 5-0 lead to begin the contest with Stephanie Bianco scoring three-straight goals in a span six minutes.

Millersville (4-3, 1-1 PSAC) got on the board with 19:44 left in the first half on an unassisted goal by Hannah Vogel.

The Crimson Hawks extended its lead to 7-1 on Bianco's fourth goal of the first half and Alexa Lodovici's second. Lodovici scored the opening goal of the contest.

Caitlin Shannon scored on a free position shot to make it 7-2 in favor of IUP. But Lodovici scored two more goals in a span of 14 seconds to make it 9-2. The Crimson Hawks closed out the first half with another three goals, including Lodovici's fifth of the half with one second remaining on the clock to take a 12-3 halftime lead.

The Crimson Hawks outshot the Marauders in the first half by a margin of 27-13.

Ashley Henderson opened the second half of play with her second goal of the game just 53 seconds in to play. IUP answered with three goals to push its lead to 15-4 for its largest lead of the game.

The Marauders strung together three consecutive goals by Becky Donkin, Henderson and Shannon to cut IUP's lead to 15-7 with 17:02 remaining in regulation.

Again, the Crimson Hawks responded and pushed their lead back to 10, up 17-7 with Lodovici recording her game-high sixth goal. The teams traded goals twice over the final eight minutes with IUP adding two late goals for a 21-10 win to end Millersville's four-game winning streak.

The Crimson Hawks outshot the Marauders 44-28 in regulation. Millersville turned the ball over 22 times, six forced, while IUP committed just 11 turnovers

Millersville made good on 6-of-7 free position shots with Henderson scoring on all three of her attempts to lead the Marauders with four goals.

IUP recorded nine assists on 21 goals, while Millersville registered no assists on its 10 goals.

The Marauders resume play on Friday, March 30 at Slippery Rock when they take on The Rock at 3 p.m.
