
Kovacs Wins Hammer Throw in Strong Golden Ram Invite Showing

West Chester, Pa. – Women's track team thrower Ann Kovacs continued her impressive start to the outdoor season Saturday, winning the hammer throw at the Golden Ram Invitational in West Chester.
Kovacs' 40.30-meter first-place toss was the best finish of the day by any member of the team, which competed well with 11 other top-three finishers. Last weekend at the Shamrock Invitational, the Bethlehem native took down the school record in the event.
Another top finisher for the women came in right behind Kovacs top finish; teammate Kelli Farris took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.57 meters.
The sprinters for both the men and women's teams excelled Saturday as well. The Marauder women's 4x100-meter relay team of Mattie Conaboy, Abby Schneider, Erin Mason and Chrissy Savage took a runner-up finish with a time of 50.30 seconds. Mason also took third individually in the 200-meter dash.
Both Marauder 4x400-meter relay teams took second place. The women's team finished in a time of 4:05.23. Mason took another top-three finish by teaming with Becky Novak, Megan Meyer and Brittney Martin. The men's team of Chris Jackson, Sergey Grinev, Tayon Haygood and Jack Scanlin also had a runner-up time of 3:30.29.
Hurdles were another strong event for Millersville. For the men, Ryan Griffith took third place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.33 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles for the men, Keith Ogden was second with a time of 55.59 seconds. For the women in the 400-meter hurdles, Savage grabbed third place with a time of 1:06.78.
Finally, the distance events produced two top-three finishers, one each from the men and women's teams. Seth Hibbs was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run, clocking a time of 4:04.74 for the men. For the women, Michelle Blum captured third place with a time of 11:10.90 in the 3,000-meter run.
After a successful day at West Chester, the Marauders will split up next weekend. Part of the team heads to the Raleigh Relays for a two-day event held in Raleigh, N.C., while the rest of the team competes in the one-day Jim Taylor Invitational a week from today in Selinsgrove, Pa.
