Princeton, N.J. – One day after the Marauder track and field teams had a good showing at the Susquehanna Open, Millersville followed it up with an even better display at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday.
On Friday, the highest place winners came from the women's team. Saturday, the men took over, with two second-place finishes, one each from Kevin Diflorio and Zach Kohler.
Diflorio's 1:57.36 finish in the 800-meter run was the fastest by a Marauder this season, besting his own New Balance Invitational time by just less than a second. Kohler finished tied for second in the high jump, with a height of 1.90 meters.
For the men's team, Justin Berg also broke a season-best distance in the weight throw. His 14.36-meter toss was his best of the season, traveling farther than the 13.61-meter throw he had at Bucknell on Jan. 28. Saturday's throw ranks him fourth in school history.
Jeff Robinson had the most work of the day for Millersville, running in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. He was clocked at 7.25 seconds in the 60-meter, missing the final cut time of 7.13 seconds. The time is a shade off his season-best 7.24-second time at the New Balance Invitational. Robinson finished in 11th place overall.
Robinson notched his second 11th place finish of the day in the 200-meter dash, running the race in a time of 23.10, short of his best time this season at 22.74 seconds.
The women's team had a pair third-place finishers Saturday. Individually, Katherine Lennex had a triple jump of 11.24 meters, a season-best by a Marauder woman in the event. The other third-place finish for the women was the 4x400-meter relay 'A' team of Megan Meyer, Chrissy Savage, Brittany Martin and Becky Novak.
Saturday's relay time of 4:01.24 was the best run of the season for the Marauders. The time bested the Bucknell Winter Classic team's time of 4:04.39. That team was made up of Meyer, Martin, Janna Richards and Sarah Mulvey.
Martin also competed in two events for Millersville. In addition to the 4x400-meter relay, she ran the 800-meter run. Her run of 2:20.78 was the best by a Marauder this season, topping her own season best by nearly a second and placing her fifth overall. Meyer also ran in the event, placing ninth with a time of 2:22.17.
Next weekend, the Marauders compete in the PSAC Championships at Edinboro University. The Championships begin on Saturday, Feb. 25 and end on Sunday the 26th. The Marauder men have 20 qualifiers for the PSAC Championships, and the women have 21.
