
Marauders Have a Strong Showing at Susquehanna Open

Selinsgrove, Pa. – In the first of two-straight days of competition for the Millersville men and women's track and field teams, the athletes posted solid results at the Susquehanna Indoor Open Friday at Susquehanna University.
The top finisher of the day for the Marauder women was Jessica Fritsche, who took fourth place in the preliminary qualifiers with a time of 8.22 seconds and fourth as well in the finals, finishing with a time of 8.24 seconds. It was the first time in her career that she ran in the event.
Also running in the event and just missing the cut for finals were ninth-place Mattie Conaboy with a time of 8.42 seconds and Whitney Savoy, who placed 11th with an 8.47-second time. Savoy's run was her first of the season, but Conaboy's time was three-hundredths of a second off her season-best time of 8.39 seconds.
Fritsche also ran well in the 200-meter dash, another first for her career. Her time of 28.19 seconds was good for 12th place. Conaboy also competed in a second event, finishing 11th in the 400-meter dash at 1:03.19, the third-best time by a Marauder this season.
One other Millersville woman to compete in multiple events was Mercedes Ortiz. She finished two spots behind Conaboy at 13th in the 400-meter dash at 1:04.11. With a time of 10.53 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, she also finished 13th in that event.
The highest finisher on the men's side was Seth Hibbs, who clocked a sixth-place, 2:00.91 time in the 800-meter run. That finish is the third-best by a Millersville men's team member this season. Following Hibbs in the 800-meter run were Andrew Musselman, who clocked a time of 2:04.36, placing 15th and Devonte King, who placed 35th at 2:11.24.
Four Marauders competed in the one-mile run. The highest placer for Millersville was Connor Veres, who came in at 14th with the third-fastest time by a Marauder this season at 4:36.00. After Veres, Matt Taylor, Zach Mains and Brad Slaughter all placed within four spots of each other. Taylor finished 21st, Mains 23rd and Slaughter came in at 24th.
Chris Jackson Jr. and Ben Morrison also logged 13th-place finishes for Millersville in the 200-meter dash and 5,000-meter run, respectively. Jackson's time was 24.14 and Morrison finished at 17:13.72.
The Marauders are in competition again today at the Princeton Invitational.
