Lewisburg, Pa. – On the back end of the two day Bison Open at Bucknell on Saturday, the Marauders distance runners rose to the challenge for the second straight day.
For the second straight day, a school record fell at Bucknell. Saturday's record-breaker for the Marauders was Elicia Anderson, whose time of 9:55.40 in the 3,000-meter dash not only won her the event, but also re-broke her own school record in the event. Anderson previously set the record last year, when she clocked in at a time of 10:01.38.
On the men's side of the same event, James McBride finished fifth in the crowded 38-man field. McBride's time of 8:44.10 is just under a second shy of his personal best for the race, when he ran at 8:43.23 last season.
Another high finisher for the Marauders in the second day of competition was Katherine Lennex, who logged a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.14 meters. With that distance, Lennex eclipsed her own team-best distance of 11.09 meters that she set in the second meet of the season on Dec. 9 at the Lehigh Fast Times.
Also in the women's jumping events, Harlee Staller grabbed a seventh place finish in the long jump. Her distance of 5.15 meters is good for fifth-best this season and is 0.36 meters off the school record distance that she set in the first meet of the season on Dec. 2 at the Lehigh Valley Open.
In the 200-meter dash, Jeff Robinson placed sixth for the Marauders with a time of 22.77. Robinson had qualified for the finals from Friday's competition, when he ran in a time of 22.75 seconds. On the women's side of the 200-meter, Chrissy Savage finished in eighth place, finishing in 27.01 seconds. That time tops her qualifying time from Friday, when she ran the 200-meter in 27.13.
The Marauders are back in action next weekend, when they will travel to New York City to take part in the New Balance Invitational on Feb. 3-4.
