Second Half Shooting Lifts ESU Over Marauders

Millersville, Pa. – After heading into halftime with the game knotted at four, East Stroudsburg out-scored Millersville 12-5 in the second period and defeated the Marauders 16-9 in PSAC women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. With the loss Millersville dropped to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

The Marauders held a 4-2 advantage at the 12:22 mark of the first half, but East Stroudsburg went on a 2-0 scoring run to close the half. The visitors continued that run into the second period and less than nine minutes into action the Warriors took a 9-4 lead.

The Marauders finally found their rhythm when Kathryn Kehring netted a free position shot at 17:34 for MU's first score of the second half. ESU quickly answered, though, with back-to-back unassisted goals by Michelle Mangiaruga to extend the Warriors' lead to six.

Caitlin Shannon scored twice and Morgan Mangiaruga and Kelsey Schmoltze each added goals in the half, but every time Millersville scored East Stroudsburg had an answer. Michelle Mangiaruga and Molly O'Hara accounted for eight of the Warriors (6-5, 4-3 PSAC) 12 second-half goals.

East Stroudsburg out-shot the Marauders 38-22 overall, including 22-10 in the second half alone. Michelle Mangiaruga led all scorers with five goals on the day for the Warriors and O'Hara chipped in four. ESU goalkeeper Amanda Simms set aside four shots and Katie Zollo stopped two.

Kehring fronted the Millersville offense with a season-high three goals, and Schmoltze and Shannon added two apiece. Courtney Haggerty stopped 15 shots for the Marauders and picked up a game-high six ground balls.

Millersville hits the road for three-straight contests before returning home for the season finale on April 21. The Marauders head to No. 13 Bloomsburg on Saturday, April 9 for a 1 p.m. match up.
