West Chester, Pa. – Despite tallying six goals in the second half, Millersville could not recover from its five-goal halftime deficit and dropped a 14-7 decision to No. 7 West Chester in PSAC women's lacrosse action Tuesday evening at Vonnie Gros Field. The nationally ranked Golden Rams (8-1, 6-0 PSAC) tacked on to their regular-season conference win streak of 65 games.
West Chester put together a six-goal first-half performance that the Marauders (3-4, 1-4 PSAC) could not counter. The Rams notched the first three scores of action until
Kelsey Schmoltze found an open
Ashley Henderson to put Millersville on the board at the 6:39 mark. WCU closed out the half with three more tallies.
Freshman
Kathryn Kehring opened the second period with a goal for MU less than one minute in, but West Chester immediately countered with three in a row.
Katie Moatz and Schmoltze added two more goals to shorten the club's deficit to five, but within five minutes the Rams rattled off four more goals to take a dominating lead at 13-4.
The Marauders finished the contest with a 3-1 scoring run, but their efforts came too late. West Chester's Claire Crimwood led all scorers with five goals and Tori Dugan chipped in three.
Schmoltze paced the Millersville offense with two goals and an assist. Marauder goalkeeper
Courtney Haggerty registered 10 saves on the day.
