Philadelphia, Pa. - It is nearly impossible to defeat a team that shoots 61 percent from the field. Millersville found that out first hand Wednesday evening against University of the Sciences in an 87-71 loss.
The Marauders (2-4) ran into a buzzsaw in UScience's (1-2) home opener. The Devils led 37-25 at halftime and poured on 50 more in the second half. The home team connected on 28-of-46 field goals, shot 5-of-12 from three and sank 26 free throws. Five devils scored in double figures including Tyronne Mann-Barnes and Patrick Connaghan, who both scored 19 points.
It was the fourth consecutive loss for Millersville and the first win by USciences in seven tries against the Marauders.
Millersville trailed 19-17 with 10 minutes to go in the first half, but a 9-0 run by USciences opened the gap to 11, and the Devils never allowed the Marauders to pull closer than 10 the rest of the way. The UScience's lead grew to as many as 22.
Larry Grant led the Marauders with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. he also handed out a season-high six assists.
Elijah Obade added 13 points and nine rebounds and
Jaymes Miller scored 11.
Millersville hosts Gannon on Saturday at 3 p.m. It is Regal Cinema Ticket Day at Pucillo Gymnasium with the first 100 Millersville students receiving a free movie pass to Regal Cinema in Lancaster.
