Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team fought for 60 minutes using impressive offensive and defensive pressure but were ultimately edged 10-6 by conference foe Shippensburg Tuesday afternoon. The Marauders now sit at 2-7 (1-5 PSAC East), while the Lady Raiders improved to 6-4 (4-2 PSAC East).
Shippensburg took the first shot of the game, but it was Millersville's
Ashley Henderson that recorded the first goal off an assist from
Liz Weekley just two minutes into action. The Raiders' leading scorer Gayle Kuntzmann quickly answered on a free position shot to tie the game early.
The clubs exchanged goals for the first 10 minutes until Shippensburg went on a three-goal run to take a 5-2 lead.
Ashley Mogle found the back of the net with just under six minutes remaining for the final goal of the half.
Millersville's defensive pressure startled the unsuspecting Lady Raiders who earned a 12-5 victory over the Black and Gold less than one month prior. The Marauders caused 13 Shippensburg turnovers in the period and held the them to a 33.0 shot percentage. Kuntzmann was limited to one shot the entire game.
Katie Brewer notched the first two goals of the half for Shippensburg--her second on a man-up opportunity. Down one teammate, the Henderson-Weekley duo got past goalkeeper Meghan Kearney to bring Millersville within two.
Collecting two more of her game-high seven goals, Brewer took her squad up by four for Shippensburg's largest lead of the day. Weekley found the back of the net to score Millersville's final goal with just 4:22 remaining. The Marauders fought to register three more shots on goal, but the Raiders had already decided the fate of the game.
Kearney set aside eight shots for the Raiders and collected five ground balls.
Weekley and Henderson led the squad with two goals apiece, and Weekley also added a team-high two assists.

Courtney Haggerty recorded 13 saves on the day, in addition to picking up five ground balls.
The Marauders travel to Indiana (Pa.) for a PSAC crossover game with the Crimson Hawks on Saturday, April 10. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
