West Chester, Pa. – The unbeaten, fifth-ranked West Chester squad lived up to its ranking, using a powerful offense involving six players scoring en route to a 14-3 defeat of Millersville in PSAC Eastern Division women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Marauders now sit at 2-6 (1-4 PSAC East) on the year, while the Rams improved to 9-0 (5-0 PSAC East).
West Chester went on a 6-0 run to start the first half with three goals coming from Gabrielle Stitz, two from Shannon Hayes, and one from Nicole Pyle.
Katie Moatz put Millersville on the board 21:04 into play off an assist from
Kelsey Schmoltze. The Rams tallied two more goals to take an 8-1 lead into halftime.
The Marauders were out-shot 20-5 in the first period and committed 15 turnovers.
West Chester opened up second half play with three goals in the first four minutes. Back-to-back Millersville goals came shortly after.
Liz Weekley responded with a goal at 23:41 to give Millersville offensive momentum.
Brittney Long was credited with the assist.
Ashley Henderson recorded an unassisted goal less than four minutes later, but it would be the Marauder's last. The Rams collected three more goals in the final 16 minutes to seal the victory.
Stitz tallied four goals on the day, and Nicole Haines and Alyssa Gallen added three goals each. Hayes finished with two goals and four assists. MacKenzie O'Keefe recorded three saves for the Rams.
