Marauders Edge Kutztown for First PSAC East Win

Senior midfielder Liz Weekley scored four goals and added two assists as Millersville snapped its four-game skid and earned its first conference win of the season in an 11-10 defeat over Kutztown on Wednesday evening. The Marauders improved to 2-5, 1-3 PSAC East, while the Golden Bears fell to 2-7, 0-4 PSAC East.

Kutztown's Lindsey Crits scored the first goal just over two minutes into action, but Millersville quickly responded with four unanswered goals. The Marauders shot 50 percent in the first period, recording six goals off of 12 shots, taking a 6-5 lead into the break.

Weekley went on an offensive surge to start the second half, tallying three goals and extending Millersville's lead. The Black and Gold took an 11-7 lead through the period and the Bears started to attack.

Kutztown scored three goals in an attempt to rally for a victory, but Millersville's defense held off the home team. The Marauders scored five goals off of eight shots in the half, while Kutztown could only connect for five goals off of 21 attempts.

Goalkeeper Courtney Haggerty set aside 18 shots in the victory, splitting the halves with nine saves apiece.

Weekley led all scorers with four goals and two assists. Her total of six points this game took her to 201 total points in her career, making her only the second player in school history to surpass the 200-point mark.

Amanda Mattera notched two goals for Millersville, and Kelsey Schmoltze, Brittney Long, Morgan Mangiaruga, Ashley Mogle, and Ashley Henderson each chipped in a goal. Henderson and Mogle also registered two assists apiece.

The Marauders travel to West Chester on Saturday Apr. 3 for a 1 p.m. match-up.
