Gannon Rolls Past Millersville

Gannon limited Millersville to 19 shots aand fired off 33 to earn a 17-4 victory over the Marauders in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover women's lacrosse action. Millersville fell to 1-5 on the year, while Gannon improved to 5-3.

Katie DiRico tallied the first goal of the game just 1:11 into action, but it would be the last the Marauders could muster up during the first half. Gannon launched 22 shots to take a 12-1 lead at halftime. The Golden Knight pressure defense limited Millersville to just eight shots in the period and caused 14 turnovers.

It was DiRico again who scored the first goal of the second period and recorded her second of the day. Gannon registered five more goals over a 17 minute span before the Black and Gold answered. Liz Weekley found the back of the net with just 26 seconds remaining. Brittney Long quickly followed, notching a goal 18 seconds later, but Gannon had already decided the fate of the game.

The Golden Knights were led by Mary Eshenour and Sarah Grzybinski, who tallied four goals apiece. Taryn Millerd added three goals. Goalkeeper Acacia Cook recorded seven saves on the day while Alexa Walnoha nabbed three.

DiRico led the Marauders with her two unassisted goals. Goalkeeper Courtney Haggerty set aside 11 shots and picked up seven ground balls.

Millersville travels to Kutztown on Wednesday, March 31 for a PSAC Eastern Division match-up. The game is slated for 4 p.m.
