Bloomsburg, Pa. – Fueled by an offense that involved eight players scoring, Bloomsburg rolled past Millersville 17-5 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division women's lacrosse action Monday. The Marauders now sit at 1-3, 0-2 PSAC East on the year, while the Huskies improved to 4-1, 2-0 PSAC East.
Bloomsburg got the ball rolling early, recording its first goal less than five minutes into the first half. The Huskies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Millersville countered.
Brittney Long scored two of her team-high three goals to put the Marauders on the board. Her first came at 21:26 off of a free position shot followed by another three minutes later off a pass from
Liz Weekley.
Morgan Mangiaruga tied the score midway through the period to net the Marauders' third goal in nine minutes.
Millersville could not hold off the powerful Huskie offense, which tallied three more goals in the period to send the teams into the locker room with a 6-3 Bloomsburg edge.
The Huskies came out strong in the second half with Tia Mazzie scoring two goals in just over a minute. Bloomsburg increased its lead to 10 before Long found the back of the net for the third time in the contest.
Ashley Mogle was credited with the assist.
Bloomsburg responded with four straight goals and the Marauders found themselves in a 13-goal hole. Mangiaruga added to Millersville's score with 1:15 left to play but the effort was not enough to pull out the win. The Marauders were out-shot 38-16, including 21-3 in the second half.
Weekley collected a team-high three assists and
Katie Moatz picked up seven ground balls. Goalkeeper
Courtney Haggerty set aside 13 shots.
Millersville hosts its home opener against East Stroudsburg on Thursday, March 25. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
