Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men's soccer team continued to look confident, running its winning streak to four straight in its 4-0 domination over non-conference opponent Holy Family Wednesday evening. With its final non-conference contest out of the way, the Marauders now turn to their opportunity to clinch a PSAC playoff berth with a win over West Chester Saturday afternoon.
Millersville (11-4-1) showed no mercy Wednesday, holding a 26-3 shot advantage over Holy Family (7-8-3). Not only have the Marauders won four in row, but they have won in dominating fashion. Since falling at Shippensburg on Oct. 16, Millersville has outscored its four opponents by a 14-1 margin.
The Tigers were unable to get past the Marauder defense the entire night, putting zero shots on goal. Millersville goalkeepers' Matt Langione and Lucas Stacey had an action-free night thanks to the outstanding work done by the defense.
Senior Kyle Loughlin started the scoring early for the Marauders. Louglin collected a 45-yard pass from teammate Eric Pepper and spun off the defender and found the back of the net in the ninth minute to put Millersville up 1-0.
The Marauders subbed in several reserves throughout the first session giving some newcomers a chance to shine. That is exactly what freshman Andrew Schuler was able to do. Schuler took a lead through pass from Pepper into the box and was able to tally it home, giving the Marauders a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, Millersville continued a recent trend. For the third game in a row, junior Pat Baffuto struck a corner kick that connected with teammate and reigning PSAC Athlete of the Week Aaron Roland. Roland's fifth goal in the last four games put Millersville up 3-0 with 40 minutes to play.
In the waning minutes, a familiar Marauder goal scorer, Andrew Dukes put one home to extend his record-setting freshman season to 11 goals on the year.
The Marauders finish their regular season this Saturday at 3 p.m., in a critical PSAC contest against West Chester. Millersville can clinch a PSAC playoff berth with a win over the Rams.
It will also be Senior Day for the Marauders. Millersville University and the men's soccer team will recognize the seven student-athletes for their accomplishments before the start of the contest.
