
Duquesne Drops Marauders, 25-9

Millersville, Pa. - Wrestling without three regulars in the lineup, the Millersville wrestling team was dealt a 25-9 defeat by Duquesne Friday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium.
The shorthanded Marauders missed the presence of former national qualifiers Jarrett Hostetter (157), Jeremy Brooks (165) and Ray Bennett (197). However, David Morey, pressed into action at 165 pounds, picked up one of the Marauders' three wins.
Millersville fell to 2-5-1 with the loss while Duquesne evened its record at 2-2.
The evening started promisingly for the Marauders as 125-pound Matt Devestine scored a quick takedown in the opening moments of the first match. But those would be his only points as Taylor Wilde scored 17 unanswered to end the match with a technical fall at the end of the second period. At 133 pounds, Jake Swink edged Justin Fegley, 8-4.
The Marauders looked to be in position to pick up its first points with Mike Greck at 141 pounds. Tony Lascari held a 4-3 edge in the third period over Greck, but Greck scored an escape to even the match at 4-4. The bout went into overtime, and the first one-minute session passed without either wrestler scoring. Lascari scored a reversal in the first tiebreaker, and despite Greck's escape in the second tiebreaker, he couldn't manage a takedown and dropped the match, 6-5.
Senior #J.J. Lester# got the Marauders on the board at 149 pounds, knocking off freshman Josh Pascazi, who entered the match with an impressive 20 wins. Lester needed extra time to pull off the 6-4 decision. The two wrestlers battled into the second sudden victory overtime before Lester broke the tie with a takedown.
Alex Martinez helped the Dukes pull away with a major decision at 157, but Morey, seeing his first action of the season, helped the Marauders inch closer with a gutsy 2-0 decision at 165.
Sophomore 174-pound Shane Smith tied Hostetter for team high in wins when he earned a 4-1 decision for his 14th win of the season. Smith's win was Millersville's last as Duquesne swept the final three bouts.
Duquesne is now 4-0-1 against Millersville in the last five meetings.
The Marauders return to action Saturday with a tri-meet at Elizabethtown. Millersville faces the hosts at 2 p.m. and New York University at 3:30 p.m.
