Marauders Fall to East Stroudsburg's Late Rally

Box Score

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - East Stroudsburg needed a late surge to top the visiting Millersville women's lacrosse team Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors scored eight goals in the second half to hand the Marauders a 15-11 defeat.

It was Millersville third consecutive defeat and in all of the losses, Millersville was within one goal of the opponent at halftime. On Tuesday, the game was deadlocked at 7-7. But that was after the Marauders had built a 7-3 lead with 10 minutes left in the half using two goals from both Kelly Kemper and Brittany Long.

East Stroudsburg scored four unanswered before the break to knot the contest. Millersville, however, managed to answer back to start the second period. The squads traded goals twice, and Kemper's third goal of the game--scored with 25:10 left--gave Millersville a 10-9 advantage. East Stroudsburg retook the lead on a Molly O'Hara goal with just over 10 minutes on the clock, but Lindsay Toriello scored her third goal of the game to retie it just 1:46 later.

Toriello's goal, however, was Millersville's last. The Warriors broke the tie with an O'Hara goal with 6:17 left and tacked on three more before the game was over.

Madison Allan received her first start in goal for the Marauders and made 10 saves. Millersville held a statistical edge in shots, ground balls and draw controls.

In addition to her three goals, Toriello added an assist. Kemper added three ground balls and six draw controls to go with her three goals. Morgan Mangiaruga tallied a goal and an assist, and Long scored twice.

Millersville's leading scorer, Liz Weekley, managed an assist but was held without a goal for the first time in over two seasons.

The Marauders, now 4-6 overal and 1-6 in the PSAC East, will look to bounce back Saturday when they host Mercyhurst. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
