Smith Honored as East Region Freshman of the Year

Millersville, Pa. - For his history-making freshman campaign, Millersville wrestling red-shirt freshman Shane Smith was named as the D1CollegeWrestling.net East Region Freshman of the Year.
Smith was the East Region champion at 174 pounds and qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships in just his first year of competition at the collegiate level. He was a place-winner at five tournaments during the season and led the Marauders with a 32-15 record.
Smith's 32 wins tied him for 10th most in Millersville history. He also led the squad with 18 pins. Among Smith's victories was a pinfall over Penn State's Quentin Wright, who was a national qualifier and also named to the D1CollegeWrestling.net All-Freshmen Team.
D1CollegeWrestling.net named a wrestler, coach and freshman of the year for each conference and region in the nation.
