Late Charge Not Enough as Marauders Fall to Shippensburg

Box Score

Shippensburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse team scored five times in the final 10 minutes of Wednesday's PSAC East contest at Shippensburg, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Marauders fell, 16-13.

Liz Weekley totaled nine points in the game with four goals and five assists. All four goals came in the final 10:25, and she had a hand in all of Millersville's final five scores. But Shippensburg had built a 15-8 advantage before the late Millersville charge.

The score stood at 6-4 at the half, and the Marauders drew within one at 7-6 on the second of Brittany Long's career high four goals. Shippensburg, however, would answer by scoring six unanswered goals in just under four minutes of action to run the lead to 13-6 and put the game out of reach for the Marauders.

While the Marauders lost, it was Weekley's fourth game this season with at least four goals. The five assists were a career high and tied her for the 11th best mark in Division II this year. She is the 27th player in Division II this season to total nine points in a game as well.

Lindsay Toriello and Jackie Geiger each scored twice for the Marauders, and Katie DiRico added one goal and an assist.

Millersville dropped to 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC East with the loss. Shippensburg improved to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the division.

The Marauders travel to Bloomsburg on April 4. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
