Box Score
Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse team stayed close to No. 1-ranked West Chester for much of the first half, but the visiting Golden Rams scored 10 second half goals to pull away and hand the Marauders a 17-5 defeat.
West Chester, which improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC East with the win, held a 52-13 advantage in shots and won 16 of the 23 draws. The Marauders dropped to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in league play.
While West Chester scored the first three goals of the game, The Marauders battled back, and after
Liz Weekley and
Katie DiRico struck within a minute of each other, they trailed just 5-3 with just over five minutes left in the first period. West Chester, however, scored two goals to close the half and opened the second with two unanswered scores to build the advantage to 9-3.
The Marauders received a goal from
Mary Houtmann at 33:39, and
Lindsay Toriello scored on an assist from Weekley at 37:30. The Golden Rams kept the offensive pressure on keeper
Courtney Haggerty, though, firing 27 shots at her in the second period. Haggerty managed to total 13 saves, but the West Chester onslaught proved too much.
Weekley and Houtmann each totaled one goal and one assist. Weekley also added four ground balls and five draw controls. Toriello's goal was her first of the season. She also caused three turnovers.
The Marauders now embark on a five-game road swing that begins Saturday at Slippery Rock. Fans can listen to Saturday's game via Slippery Rock's live internet broadcast.
