Millersville, Pa. - #Liz Weekley# totaled five goals and two assists as the Millersville women's lacrosse team routed visiting Indiana (Pa.) 17-6 Saturday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
The Marauders (1-1) notched their first victory of the season with the win and kept IUP winless in the process. Weekley totaled at least five goals in a game for the 11 time in the last two seasons--a span of 16 games. She has eight goals in two games so far this year.
Weekley, however, was not the only Marauder finding the back on the net.
Katie DiRico and
Kelsey Schmoltze each scored a career-high four goals as well.
Weekley set the tone in the first minute of the game, scoring on an assist from
Rebecca Barker. She went on to score the first three goals of the game.
The Marauders grew the advantage to 8-1 with just over seven minutes left in the first half on back-to-back goals from Brittany Long. DiRico added two more before the half, and Millersville took a 10-4 lead into the break. Schmoltze struck twice at the start of the second and DiRico folowed with two more to push the lead to 10. The Marauders coasted from there, adding another from Schmoltze and two more from Weekley before time expired.
Goalkeeper
Courtney Haggerty totaled 14 saves including 10 in the second half. She also came up with six ground balls.
Millersville out-shot the Crimson Hawks by a 43-24 margin.
Millersville returns to action Wednesday at home against East Stroudsburg. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
