Selinsgrove, Pa. — Freshman Hakeem Johnson, a two-sport athlete, put away the football cleats and broke out the running shoes to lead the Millersville men's track and field team at the Susquehanna Open on Saturday.
Johnson took home a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash. The rookie from Philadelphia completed the 200 in a time of 23.63. It was Johnson's first attempt at the even this season. Johnson was the only Millersville athlete to compile multiple top 10's on the day, as he also finished eighth in the 55 meter dash. His time of 6.71 seconds was 0.05 short of qualifying for the finals in the event.
The Marauders only got two other top 10 finishes on the men's side Saturday. Zach Kohler took fourth in the high jump. Kohler's best jump cleared 1.90 meters, matching his season-best, which was set at the Lafayette Invitational. The freshman had already qualified for the PSAC Indoor Championships with his previous jump of 1.90 meters.
James McBride also picked up a fourth place finish on Saturday. McBride's top five finish came in the men's one mile run. The Wrightsville, Pa. native finished the mile in 4:26.69, setting a team-best mark in the event this season and qualifying himself for the PSAC Indoor Championships.
The men's track and field team now gets set for the PSAC Indoor Championships, which will be held next Saturday and Sunday at East Stroudsburg.
