Ice Cold Shooting Dooms Marauders

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. -
The Millersville defense did its part, holding visiting Goldey-Beacom to just 66 points. But the shots just wouldn't fall for the Marauders as they hit 17-of-60 attempts in a 66-52 loss Monday evening at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Millersville (5-2) trailed by five at the break, shot 18.8 percent and missed its first 15 3-pointers of the second half before Palmer McDurfee sank a deep three with time expiring. That was far too little too late for a team that managed to connect on just 3-of-21 from long range in the game.

Only three players managed to hit more than one field goal, and Jason Blake and Nigel Davis combined for 11 of the team's 17 made shots. Blake went 5-for-10 from the field and 8-for-10 from the line to finish with 18 points and four steals. Davis contributed his first career double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 13 rebounds--nine of which were offensive.

As fine of performances as Blake and Davis put forth, Goldey-Beacom's (6-2) Kyle White and Terrence Parkes bested them. White delivered 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Parkes added 16 points and 13 boards.

Millersville managed to counter its slow start early with eight first half points from Davis. And his lay-up off a McDurfee drive and dish at the end of the first half put Millersville within striking distance at 35-30. But the Marauders scored just three points over the first five minutes of the second half while Goldey-Beacom raced in front by as many as nine.

Goldey-Beacom's advantage grew to 13 with 5:11 left, and the Marauders managed only two field goals the rest of the way--one of which was McDurfee's bomb with 14 ticks remaining.

Goldey-Beacom held a decisive edge inside, outscoring the Marauders 40-20 in the paint and 17-8 on second chance points. The Lightning held a 49-37 edge in rebounding despite 19 offensive rebounds from the Marauders.

Millersville has 15 days to recover before playing a pair of tough road games in Wheeling, W.Va., as part of the Main Street Classic. The Marauders face host Wheeling Jesuit on Dec. 29 and West Liberty on Dec. 30.
