Box Score
Washington, D.C. — The Millersville men's soccer team has soared to unprecedented heights under third-year head coach
Steve Widdowson. Tuesday afternoon the third-ranked Marauders continued that upward trend, tying a school record with their 10th shutout of the season in a 3-0 blanking of the University of the District of Columbia.
Millersville (12-1) matched a mark set by the 2002 team and now has an opportunity to stand alone as the toughest team to score against in the program's 50-season history. Not only did the team tie that impressive benchmark, but keeper
Matt Langione moved into first place on the all-time wins list with 39.
Sophomore
Dan Prian got the scoring started for the Black and Gold at 21:17. Prian converted a pass from
Adam Keller for his third goal of the season.
Todd Grimm would put a ball past UDC (2-9-1) keeper Kareem Gray just over four minutes before halftime to give the Marauders a 2-0 lead.
Joseph Chilutti picked up an assist on Grimm's second of the year. The helper gave Chilutti his first-career collegiate point.
Aaron Roland finished off the scoring in the 63rd minute. Once again it was Chilutti picking up the assist. The Firebirds, who played just two subs, could not match the speed and finesse of Millersville throughout the contest.
MU held a 32-4 shot advantage. UDC got two of the four on goal. Langione made one save in 70:18 of work, picking up his 12th win of the season. Backup
Kurt Pleier also recorded a save in playing the final 19:42. Gray made 14 saves for the Firebirds in the loss.
The Marauder men return home Friday night for their BLACKOUT game against West Chester. It is the final regular season home game of 2009 and seniors will be honored prior to the game. All fans are encouraged to wear black to the game, in which the Marauders could potentially register a record-setting 11th shutout. Game time on Friday is set for 5 p.m.
