Men's Soccer Kicks the Season Off With a Win

Box Score

New Castle, Del. -
The Millersville men's soccer team got its season started the right way, tallying a goal in each half to defeat Holy Family 2-0 in the opening game of the Wilmington University Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

The Marauders got on the board shortly after the midway point of the first half. Senior #Ryan Kiley# scored an unassisted goal, as he was able to beat Holy Family keeper Patrick Becker in the 29th minute to give Millersville the 1-0 edge.

Millersville kept the pressure on, bombarding the Tigers' keeper with 14 first half shots, but the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Marauders as the game went to halftime.

Sophomore Jeremy Yoder gave the Marauders a bit of a cushion with less than 20 minutes to play in the game, when he headed a Kiley cross into the back of the net in the 71st minute for a 2-0 lead.

A strong Millersville defensive effort was able to keep Holy Family at bay, as the Marauders outshot the Tigers 23-4 for the game. Sophomore keeper Matt Langione stopped every shot he faced in recording his fourth career shutout.

The Marauders (1-0-0) will be back in action Friday afternoon taking on Philadelphia Unversity in New Castle, Del. Game time is schedule for 4 p.m.
