Field Hockey Turns Back Philadelphia

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville University field hockey team won for the fourth time in five games Thursday afternoon when it defeated the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University 2-1 in a non-conference showdown at Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium.

Philadelphia (3-9) got on the board first in the 31st minute, as Brooke Woodland knocked a deflected shot past Marauder goalkeeper Sara Dickinson for a 1-0 lead.

Millersville (4-6) would even the score in the 47th minute when junior defender Krista Bupp converted a penalty stroke for her second goal of the season. 10 minutes later, sophomore Jessica Cave took a feed from senior Renee Fraker and knocked it into the cage for what proved to be the game winner as the Marauders secured their first home win of the season.

Dickinson, a freshman, made two saves in the contest. The Rams outshot the Marauders 8-6 overall, but Millersville had a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Millersville will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they travel to Brookville , N.Y. to take on the Pioneers of C.W. Post in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest. Game time is 1 p.m.
