A sharpshooter with no comparison in the history of Millersville women's basketball, Sara Burcin scored 1,543 career points, establishing a scoring record that stood for nearly 20 years while also earning All-PSAC East First Team honors three times.

Burcin is one of just four Millersville women’s basketball players to be a three-time first team honoree, and she is the only Marauder to win the PSAC East Freshman of the Year Award. Burcin set a Millersville record by making 248 3-pointers--78 more than any other Marauder. She sank an incomparable 39% of her shots from deep. No other Marauder has ever shot better than 35.3% from three. Burcin also set a single-season record for 3-pointers made with 70 in 1999-00. As a freshman in 1997-98, Burcin knocked down a school record 44.2% of her threes.

Over four seasons, Burcin played in 112 games, helping Millersville to three 20-win seasons, a PSAC East title in 1999-2000, and she played on two NCAA Tournament teams. She led the team in scoring average in each of her four seasons and graduated with an average of 13.8 points per game.

Burcin made an immediate impact at Millersville. In her freshman season, she scored 13.9 points per game and set a then-program record for 3-pointers with 69 makes. The following season, she was the top scorer for Coach Mary Fleig’s first NCAA Tournament team. The Marauders went 22-8 behind Burcin’s 14.6 points per game. As a junior in 1999-00, Burcin sparked the Marauders to their first PSAC East title in seven years, winning a school record 25 games and advancing to the NCAA regional final. Burcin scored 442 points that season. Burcin averaged 12.6 points per game as a senior, leading Millersville to a 21-6 campaign. In addition to scoring and 3-pointer records, Burcin ranked in the top 10 in field goals made, field goal percentage and steals at the time of her graduation.

Burcin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in athletic coaching in 2001. She also earned a master’s degree in sport management from Millersville in 2008 and managed the SMC Fitness Center from 2008-19. She now works as an employer well-being coordinator for Lancaster General/Penn Health.
