Ini Hazatones epitomized the term “student-athlete” during her stellar career with the Marauder field hockey team.

A four-year starter, three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, and the only three-time NFHCA/NCAA Division II All-American in school history, Hazatones ranks sixth all-time in career points with 63, and she is one of only two players in the history of the program to score at least 10 goals in back-to-back seasons.

Hazatones earned her first postseason honor following her sophomore season when she was named All-PSAC Second Team and NFHCA/NCAA Division II All-America Second Team. Hazatones only continued to improve, however, scoring a team-high 11 goals in 1998 and landing first team All-America, All-PSAC First Team and NFHCA All-Academic honors at season’s end. As a senior, Hazatones again paced the Marauders with 10 goals, and for her efforts, she was named All-PSAC First Team and first team All-America for the second-straight year.

At the conclusion of her career, Hazatones was the recipient of the NCAA Division II Woman of the Year award, which honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, community service and leadership. She also was a PSAC Fall Top Ten award winner in 1999 and named Faculty-Student Athlete Committee Scholar Athlete of the Year following graduation.

Hazatones graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 2000 and is now a third grade teacher at St. Edmund’s Academy. Her husband, Ray Zeliznik, graduated from Millersville in 2003. The couple now resides in Pittsburgh, Pa.
