From 1974-77, Bob Rossi established himself as one of the great hitters in Millersville history, completing his four-year career with a .401 batting average and earning All-PSAC East First Team recognition three times.

Along with recent graduates and MLB Draft selections Chris Murphy and Chas McCormick, Rossi remains one of only three players in Millersville history to be a three-time All-PSAC East First Team pick. He was the only Marauder to hold that distinction for 38 years. His career batting average held the Millersville standard until 1990 and the mark still ranks third all-time. He is one of just three Marauders to ever post a career average over .400.

Rossi was a linchpin to the Marauders’ team success under hall of fame coach Gene Wise. With Rossi hitting .392 in 1974, the Marauders won their first PSAC Championship with a 17-4 record. Rossi backed up that performance as a sophomore in 1975 by hitting .435—an average that set the school record at the time and ranks seventh presently. Rossi ranked 15th in Division III in hitting that season.

With his bat in the lineup, the Marauders went 15-5 and defeated Indiana (Pa.) to win the PSAC Championship for a second consecutive season. Those PSAC crowns would be Millersville’s only two until 1998.

Rossi continued his outstanding hitting over his final two seasons, hitting .365 as a junior and .411 as a senior, ranking 30th in Division III in 1977. He finished his career of 232 at bats with 46 RBIs and 55 runs scored. Not only was he named All-PSAC East three times, he was a unanimous selection in 1975.

Rossi graduated with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education in 1977. He was a Major League Baseball scout for over 26 years and was once named the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Scout of the Year. Rossi was inducted to the Northeast Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
