Millersville University named Ethan Hulsey as director of athletic communications on June 9, 2008.

In 17 years at Millersville, Hulsey founded and designed millersvilleathletics.com and established the online video streaming for Millersville Athletics. He serves as the primary media contact for Millersville's 19 intercollegiate teams.

Hulsey's work in writing and design has garnered awards from the College Sports Communicators. From 2019-2025, he was the District winner in the Fred Stabley Writing Contest 11 times in four different categories and four times finished as the runner-up. He won two CSC National Story of the Year awards in 2024 and finished as the runner-up in two categories in 2025. His story on Millersville alum Chas McCormick's catch in the World Series earned him a 2023 Silver Keystone Award from the Public Relations Society of America. In 2018, he was named Millersville University Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Professional Staff Member of the Year. 

Hulsey has twice hosted the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship, the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, three NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Atlantic Regionals, the 2013 and 2015 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Quarterfinals, seven NCAA Division II Baseball Atlantic Regionals and three NCAA Division II Men's Golf Atlantic/East Super Regionals. He previously served on the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Regional Advisory Committee and is now a voter in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Poll. Hulsey also served as the Atlantic Region chair for the D2SIDA Men's Basketball Media Poll for three years. For seven years, he served as the national chairman for the Gene Upshaw Award, which is awarded to the top lineman in Division II football each year. He is also the coordinator of the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region baseball teams. He served a two-year term as the the president of the PSAC Sports Information Directors group.

Hulsey arrived at Millersville with three years of sports information experience at the NCAA Division II level, having served as the assistant sports information director at Mercyhurst College during the 2007-08 school year and as the graduate assistant at Shippensburg University from 2005-07.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications in 2005 from West Liberty State College in West Liberty, W.Va., and then received a master’s degree in organizational development and leadership from Shippensburg University in 2007.

At Mercyhurst, Hulsey served as the primary media contact for nine of the school’s Division II athletic teams, including men’s basketball, wrestling and baseball and worked closely with the Division I men’s and women’s ice hockey programs. While at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference affiliated Shippensburg, he was the media contact for six sports and assisted in the hosting of the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.

Prior to his stint at Shippensburg, Hulsey worked as a media relations intern with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League and with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds of the National Indoor Football League. He was also the sports editor of West Liberty’s student newspaper and the play-by-play commentator for West Liberty basketball and football games.
