Katie McNerney

Katie McNerney joined the Millersville women's swimming team prior to the 2011-12 season as an assistant to coach Kyle Almoney.

McNerney was a highly decorated swimmer at Clarion in the early part of the decade. Before graduating with a BA in psychology and a coaching minor in 2002, she earned All-America honors back-to-back years in 2000-01. Her 200-meter freestyle relay team ranked third in the nation in 2000 in addition to her 400-meter freestyle and medley relay teams being national qualifiers. Individually, she was also a national qualifier in the 100-meter freestyle. She was an All-American and state qualifier all four years of high school as well.

Before coming to Millersville, McNerney was the head coach for two programs. She was a YMCA head coach from 2002-03 and also the head high school coach for Villa Maria Academy from 2002-07. She was so successful in her first year that her team vaulted seven spots in the district from 10th to third. The team placed second in the district by in her second year and went on to win three straight district titles to end her tenure. After inheriting one state qualifier in her first year with the program, she produced 10 state qualifiers in her final year.

McNerney has also been busy outside of the pool. She has worked in the mental health field for over 10 years, which has provided her with experience in helping to motivate and challenge individuals to make positive changes in their own lives. She has transfered this experience into an open-door, open-mind style of coaching.
