Garret Pettis, a star player at Lipscomb University and five-year member of the Harrisburg City Islanders, joined Coach Steve Widdowson's coaching staff as the assistant coach prior to the 2016 season. In his three seasons, the Marauders have reached the PSAC Championship three times, winning it in 2018 and 2019 while posting a combined record of 48-21-11.Â
Pettis and Widdowson worked together as members of the City Islanders' organization starting in 2012. While playing soccer at the professional level, Pettis gained significant coaching experience. Most recently, he was an assistant coach at Dickinson College where he helped the team to a 13-5-3 record and NCAA Tournament berth.
Prior to coaching at Dickinson, Pettis was a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, and also coached at Central Dauphin High School in 2014. His experience also includes working with the Harrisburg City Islanders Academy and the City Islanders' 23-U League.
The top goal-scorer in Lipscomb history, Pettis was a senior captain, four-year starter and two-time All-Atlantic Sun First Team selection. He was voted the 2008 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year. He set program records for goals in a season, goals in a game and career goals.
Pettis earned a degree in health and physical education.
