Millersville

Ryan Forrest

Ryan Forrest, a former University of Maine pitcher and assistant coach, joined the Millersville baseball program staff as its recruiting coordinator  and pitching coach prior to the 2014 season and has quickly establish himself as a tireless worker, outstanding recruiter and pitching coach with a knack for developing arms.

In his two seasons with the club, Forrest has coached several record-setting and award-winning players including Houston Astros draft pick, two-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Year and All-American Chris Murphy. Murphy set Millersville career records for wins, innings pitched, complete gams and strikeouts and was taken in the 27th round of the MLB Draft in June of 2015. Murphy was named a finalist for the Brett Tomko Award, becoming the second Forrest pupil in as many seasons to be a finalist for major Division II recognition. Closer Adam Zipko, who totaled nine saves and a 1.50 ERA was the runner-up for the Josh Willingham Award. Zipko (9-0 in 2014) and Murphy (12-0 in 2015) set PSAC records for wins in a season without a loss in back-to-back seasons.

Forrest also oversaw the development of Brandon Miller into an ace. Forrest helped land the right-handed starter as a recruit and as a sophomore in 2015, Miller won 12 games and scored NCBWA All-America Honorable Mention honors in addition to All-PSAC East First Team and All-Atlantic Region First Team recognition. Miller earned a fulltime contract in the Cape Cod League in summer of 2015 and was named a league all-star.

In two seasons, Forrest's pitching staff accounted for five All-PSAC East selections. In his first seaon with the club, Forrest guided the staff to a brilliant 2.84 ERA and ranked second in the PSAC with a .235 batting average against. The Marauders replicated that ranking in 2015 with 3.21 team ERA and led the league with a .226 batting average against and 10 complete games.

Before coming to Millersville, Forrest worked two seasons as the volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater. He was responsible for working with infielders and outfielders, coaching first base, game and practice plans, scouting reports on upcoming opponents and was the director of camps and clinics.

Prior to joining the University of Maine coaching staff, Forrest worked in the video and advanced scouting department for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  With the Pirates, Forrest was responsible for assisting with and prepping advanced scouting reports and video for the coaching staff and players.

Forrest played at the University of Maine from 2007-2009, where he saw action in 31 career games as a relief pitcher. He finished with a 3-2 record with one save. As a sophomore, he saw action in 19 games and struck out 28 batters.

During the summer months of his collegiate career, Forrest pitched for the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League and the Danbury Westerners of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Forrest attended Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado, where he compiled a 5-0 record with 4 saves as a senior. He was the winning pitcher of the 5A state semifinal game.
