After coaching over three decades at the high school level, Bill Sassaman joins Millersville University’s baseball team for his inaugural season as an assistant coach on Jon Shehan’s staff.
Serving as the head coach at Manheim Township High School for 23 seasons, Sassaman compiled a .654 winning percentage with a career record of 339-179-1. Under Sassaman’s direction the Blue Streaks had a ubiquitous presence in the post-season appearing in 69 contests, winning 38. The Blue Streaks' high mark season occurred in 2006, a season in which the squad finished as state runner-up in addition to compiling a 26-3 record.
During Sassaman’s tenure at Manheim Township six of his former players signed professional baseball contracts: Adam Leed (1995), Craig Pfautz (2003), Pete Andrelczyk (2004), Austin Gallagher (2007), Mark Jones (2009) and Cameron Gallagher (2011).
Sassaman is noted in the baseball community as an old school traditionalist who excels at teaching the game’s fundamentals.
A graduate of Muhlenberg High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. Both Muhlenberg High School and Kutztown University have inducted Sassaman into their Athletic Halls of Fame honoring his outstanding accomplishments on the diamond

Recently retiring from Manheim Township with 35 years as a mathematics instructor, Sassaman is presently teaching part-time at Lancaster Country Day School.
Residing in Lancaster, Sassaman and his wife Jennifer are the parents of four children – Bret, Leah, Drew, and Anna.
