With a young group, head coach Evan Anthony knows there will be plenty of learning throughout the season. However, the newcomers have already shown a willingness to buy into the program and learn from the experienced swimmers. "They've done a really nice job of buying in right away and kind of taking the lead from the upperclassmen and learning what they have to offer," said Anthony.
One of the biggest areas of growth for the younger swimmers will be learning how to balance the demands of academics and athletics. The Marauders have relied on their team chemistry and support system to help navigate those challenges. The team's upperclassmen have also emphasized enjoying the experience of being a student-athlete and making the most of their time at Millersville. "It's a quick four years and they should just be thankful for it," said Anthony. "I know if you ask the juniors and seniors, they look back and it's like, holy smokes, how did that time fly by?"
Hard work has been a consistent part of the Millersville swimming program, and that will continue to be a major focus this season. The Marauders have placed an additional emphasis on details and being intentional with everything they do. That focus extends beyond the pool, with the team emphasizing intentional training during dry land and in the weight room. "Just having intent behind everything that we do, whether it's a stroke count or maybe it's breath control or working breakouts and finishes, or in the weight room, just really slowing it down and thinking about each rep that you're doing," said Anthony.
Millersville will look to use its depth and team chemistry to push one another throughout the season. By focusing on getting better individually, the Marauders believe the team goals will follow. "We have a really strong team here, and I think they know what they're capable of doing," said Anthony. "If we can just focus on what will help us get better on that individual level, we can use the team to help push each other and make each other better." Beyond times and results, the Marauders will also focus on enjoying their time together and building an experience they can look back on when their swimming careers are over. "I think one of the big goals of this season, like I always say, is just enjoying our time as a team," said Anthony. "When you're older, you're going to say, man, I really enjoyed my time at Millersville swimming."
Through the early stages of the season, the Marauders have already demonstrated a high level of motivation. From arriving early to practice to embracing the team's expectations, the group has shown a willingness to put in the work. "This has been an extremely motivated team, just when it comes to getting to practice early, to doing the right things, to wanting to be there, to wanting to buy into the team," said Anthony. With a young roster learning from its upperclassmen, an emphasis on intentional training and a group committed to pushing one another, Millersville will look to continue building throughout the 2026-27 season. If there is one word to describe this year's Marauders, it is motivated. "They're a very driven and motivated team this year," said Anthony.
