
Marauders come up just short in tight dual meet vs. Diplomats

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Millersville University women's swimming team came up just short against Franklin & Marshall College in a tightly contested dual meet, falling 136–125. The Marauders earned six first-place finishes on the day and added seven second-place results in a strong overall performance.
Millersville opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the quartet of Claire Weaver, Kiersten Zecchin, Sara Blitva, and Jillian Fidelman touched the wall in 1:57.89. Hannah Baumgardner, Izabella Wreski, and Jane McClelland followed with a sweep of the top three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle, with Baumgardner later adding a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
Abigail Lowman secured the Marauders' first individual win of the meet with a time of 59.82 in the 100-yard backstroke. Millersville continued its momentum in the 100-yard breaststroke, claiming a 1-2-3 finish behind Leah Eckert, Wreski, and Zecchin, who finished within seconds of one another. Violet Pizzillo placed second in the 200-yard butterfly, while Anna Sassaman recorded third-place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
Lowman added another first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, and Eckert, Pizzillo, and Zecchin repeated their podium sweep with the top three finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke. In the 500-yard freestyle, Baumgardner, Wreski, and McClelland placed second, third, and fourth, respectively, followed by a third-place finish from Weaver in the 100-yard butterfly. Lowman closed out the individual events with a victory in the 200-yard IM, while the relay team of Wreski, Baumgardner, Anna Burrowes, and Eckert finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Marauders are back in the water Saturday, Jan 31 at 1 p.m. when they travel to California, Pa. to face the Vulcans from California University (Pa.)
