KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Alex Kuehn,
Garet Blankenbiller,
Zeb Hufnagle and
Jordan Oliver combined to hold Kutztown to just one run over 14 innings, taking Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 4-1 and 10-0, completing a four-game series sweep of the Golden Bears.
Kuehn (5-0) tossed his first career complete game, navigating the seven innings in just 87 pitches, striking out three without issuing a walk. Blankenbiller (4-1) went 5 2/3 in game two, allowing just one hit while striking out eight. Millersville out-scored Kutztown 20-1 over the final three games of the series.
The sweep extended Millersville's winning streak to seven and boosted it to 17-3 in the PSAC East, a game up on East Stroudsburg for first place with eight games remaining. Millersville has now won 21 of the last 22 games over Kutztown.
Matthew Williams and
Keegan Soltis did the damage for the Marauders in game one. Millersville trailed 1-0 in the third, but Williams drove in a pair with a single to left field. Soltis boosted Millersville's lead with an RBI single in the fifth, and his single in the seventh led to a Kutztown error, which scored
Jeff Sabater--his second run of the game. Sabater and Soltis combined for four of Millersville's nine hits.
Williams provided more offense in game two, going 4 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs. He hit his 11th home run of the season in the sixth inning, giving Millersville a 7-0 lead.
Amani Jones, who missed game one, was active as well. He went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs. He scored Millersville's first run on a balk in the third inning, gave Millersville a 3-0 lead with a two-run double in the fourth, and extended the lead with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Millersville totaled 13 hits in the game.
Sam Morris and
Donis Rodriguez also had two hits.
Bren Taylor, who tripled in game two, finished his day with two hits, boosting his career total to 303, moving to within three of Chas McCormick's '17 PSAC record.
The Marauders travel to West Chester on Friday, April 25, to begin a crucial PSAC East series.
