MANSFIELD, Pa. — The Millersville Marauders broke free of their recent offensive slump by scoring 14 runs on Monday afternoon at Mansfield, but late-game struggles resulted in losses of 7–6 and 9–8. The Marauders entered the seventh inning with the lead in both contests but were undone by a pair of Mountaineer comebacks.
The visitors worked to put themselves up 6–1 by the fourth inning of the first half of the twin-bill.
Victoria Fuss brought home the first run of the game with a groundout in the first inning and then the Marauders poured it on in the fourth.
Angelina Edwards drove in two with a single and a passed ball scored one more tally. The very next batter,
Carly Vaughan, made it 6–1 with a two-run single of her own. In response, the hosts tallied two runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Four first inning walks to open the nightcap resulted in two Marauder runs without the benefit of a hit. The hits would come in the sixth, when Edwards followed a Fuss hit by pitch with a double to put two on for
Ellie Soucy. Soucy delivered in the biggest way, blasting a three-run homer over the left centerfield fence for a 5–4 lead. Millersville would add three more to their lead in the seventh on RBI singles from
Hailey Watlington and
Mollie White. Just as they did in the first game, the hosts performed a miraculous comeback in the seventh, getting hits on four straight pitches as part of a five-run frame.
Jocelyn Langer extended her on-base streak to 40 games with a double in game one and a walk in game two. The freshman scored three runs on the day to push her season total to 39 and tie Meghan Sinback in 2007 for the sixth most in a season in team history. Her 55 hits are now tied for the 10th most in team history and her 23 walks are tied for ninth.
The Marauders are back in action tomorrow, April 14 at home against Shippensburg at 1 and 3 p.m.
